To receive the rank of SHODAN

  1. You must be minimum 16 years of age.
  2. Recommended minimum 4 years of Active Training - see section "B" of the grading manual.
  3. You must have been a brown belt at least 18 months of Active Training.
  4. You must attend a minimum of 2 Black Belt Clinics per calendar year and it must be recorded in your passbook.
  5. You must compete or participate in 2 SWKKF tournaments during your present rank in either event.
  6. You must know the following katas:
    1. Pinan Shodan
    2. Pinan Nidan
    3. Pinan Sandan
    4. Pinan Yodan
    5. Pinan Godan
    6. Kushanku
  1. Techniques to be performed:
    1. Basic techniques
    2. Combination block-counter
    3. Taisabaki movement
    4. Side stepping
    5. Fluency in combination techniques
    6. Two step or free style kumite

  1. The individual must be of strong moral character and demonstrate mental and emotional maturity and should be reflected in their behavior.
  2. You must meet the minimum kyu belt requirements listed below:
