To receive the rank of GODAN

  1. You must be minimum 35 years of age.
  2. You must have been a Yodan at least 5 years of Active Training - see section "B" of the grading manual.
  3. You must attend a minimum of 2 Black Belt Clinics per calendar year and it must be recorded in your passbook.
  4. You must compete or participate in 2 SWKKF tournaments during your present rank in either event and it must be recorded in your passbook.
  5. You must be an active instructor and instruct at least two Black Belt Clinics in your grading year.
  6. You must apply at least 6 months prior to the grading date.
  7. You must instruct part of the grading.
  8. You must know the following katas:
    1. Pinan Shodan
    2. Pinan Nidan
    3. Pinan Sandan
    4. Pinan Yodan
    5. Pinan Godan
    6. Kushanku
    7. Seishan
    8. Nahanchin
    9. Chinto
    10. Wanshu
  9. Techniques to be performed:
    1. Basic techniques
    2. Combination block-counter
    3. Taisabaki movement
    4. Side stepping
    5. Fluency in combination techniques
    6. Two step or free style kumite

  10. The individual must be of strong moral character and demonstrate mental and emotional maturity and should be reflected in their behavior.
  11. The individual must be able and willing to convey their knowledge of Wado Kai karate through example. An exceptional teacher must be able to bring the best out of all of their students and help continue to grow a strong federation as Sensei Masaru Shintani has set the foundation for.
